USAPL Maryland States: 12L Recap

This past weekend three 12 Labours athletes competed in the USAPL Maryland State meet. This competition was the summation of months of work focused on powerlifting under the watchful eye of Coach Jared.

At the competition, athletes are separated by weight class and must establish a heavy 1-rep in:

  • Bench Press
  • Deadlift
  • Back Squat

Athletes have three chances per lift to reach their heaviest rep. (9 lifts total)

12 Labours results are listed below:

Coach Megan

Megan has been coaching CrossFit classes for over two years and just recently started focusing a lot on powerlifting. This was her first meet and there's definitely more coming.

Megan placed 3rd in the 84kg weight class. She went 7 out of 9 attempts and finished with the following totals:

  • Back Squat: 226 lbs.
  • Bench: 133 lbs.
  • Deadlift: 287 lbs.

Aleah M.

Aleah placed 1st in the 84kg weight class. She also went 7 out of 9 attempts and finished with the following totals:

  • Back Squat: 305 lbs.
  • Bench: 177 lbs.
  • Deadlift: 365 lbs.

This total also earned her the title of Best Female Lifter!

Alan H.

Alan set 2 state records in the masters division. His story is inspiring and exciting leading to this point. About a year ago, Alan came in to 12 Labours after taking a break from CrossFit for an extended period of time. When he approached Coach Jared, he noted his experience and added, "I think I can break some state records, so I want to start lifting again."

He had a vision, and worked to achieve it. One year later, here are the results:

Alan placed 2nd in the 93Kg. masters class. He also broke two state records.

  • Back Squat: 342 lbs.
  • Bench Press: 237 (MD State Record)
  • Deadlift: 419 lbs. (MD State Record)

Congratulations to all athletes who competed this weekend. It's great to start training with a goal- whether it's a competition or a skill that you're looking to perfect. The best part about achievement is that each goal continues to get bigger and you continue to get better.

Keep reaching, we'll help you get there.
