“September 24th marks my two-year anniversary at 12 Labours CrossFit, and what a journey it has been. My daughter and son-in-law talked me into it (after a rocky start, I finally wrote them back into my Will). When I started in 2018, I weighed 197 pounds and couldn’t walk up a flight of stairs without getting winded. Today I weigh 177 lbs and have no problem climbing anything. Did a 5 mile hike up Mt. Cook in New Zealand last February with ease. I also lowered my cholesterol from 224 (Doctor wanted to put me on statins) to 172, and triglycerides from 145 to 108. My Doctor says whatever I’m doing, don’t stop, nor do I intend to.
I’ve accomplished a level of physical fitness that I wouldn’t have thought possible 30 years ago, much less at my age (I’ll be 70 in November). I’ve also met some amazing athletes and great people whose encouragement has been instrumental in my development. I’ve never encountered one “gym snob” at 12 Labours CrossFit.
But one of the best things is meeting and getting to know the incredible coaches at 12 Labours. Wilson, Josh, Amanda, Fred, you guys are the best. Your knowledge, skills, and coaching are second to none. And the welcoming culture you’ve established makes the whole experience enjoyable (well most of the time).
So I plan on being around a while longer and want to say a special thanks to all the coaches and athletes for your support. By the way, I understand there is a tradition of doing the number of burpees for your age on your birthday, so I don’t think I’ll be there that week in November.”
